The brief
Keeping a car clean takes time most people don’t have. Washy’s idea was simple: instead of the customer driving to a car wash, the wash comes to them, at home or at work. For that to work, customers needed an app that books a wash in a few taps, lets them pick the service and tells them exactly when it will happen.
On-demand services live or die on reliability. Customers need to trust that a booking is confirmed and that someone will turn up. Washy’s team needs every booking to arrive with what the job requires: where, when and which service. A booking with a vague address is worse than no booking at all, because someone drives out for it.
What we built
- An app for iOS and Android. One app, available on both platforms, so customers can book whatever phone they carry.
- Scheduling. Customers choose a date, a time slot and where the car will be, whether that is a home address or a workplace. In a mobile service, location is the field that matters most, so it is part of the booking itself rather than a free-text note.
- Wash packages. Exterior, interior or a full service, so the booking matches what the customer wants and the team arrives with the right kit.
- Push notifications. Real-time messages confirm the booking and keep customers updated on appointment status and progress. For a business like this, each update the app sends is a “where are you?” phone call that never has to happen.
- A short path to booking. As few steps as possible, with clear prices, from opening the app to a confirmed wash.
Technology
Washy is an app for iOS and Android backed by a booking system that stores customers, locations, packages and appointments, and sends push notifications at each stage of the job. Building one app for both platforms, rather than two separate native apps, kept development and maintenance costs within reach for a start-up.
