This statement sets out the steps WE-DEV LTD takes to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chain. Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires a statement only from organisations with an annual turnover of £36 million or more. We are well below that threshold, so this statement is voluntary. We publish it because we think every business, whatever its size, should know who it works with.
Our business
WE-DEV LTD is a software and web development agency registered in England and Wales (company number 15878974) and based in Woolwich, London. We design and build websites, online shops, mobile apps and custom software for businesses and organisations, mostly in the UK.
We are a small company. Our work is carried out by our founder and a small group of developers and specialists, with occasional help from freelance professionals such as photographers, illustrators and video producers.
Our supply chain
Our supply chain is short and mostly digital. It includes:
- software, cloud and hosting providers, such as web hosting, Cloudflare, Stripe, Google and email delivery services;
- software tools and licences, such as premium WordPress plugins, fonts and stock image libraries;
- freelance specialists engaged for individual projects;
- office equipment, mainly computers and phones, bought from established UK retailers.
Risks we have identified
We consider the risk of modern slavery in our own operations to be low, because our work is skilled, office-based and carried out by people we know. The areas where risk can arise in a business like ours are:
- the manufacture of electronic equipment, where forced labour has been reported in parts of the global supply chain for components and raw materials;
- outsourced or low-cost digital work, such as content moderation, data labelling or offshore development, where workers can be exploited;
- stock imagery and content sourced from unknown origins.
What we do
- We know who does the work. We do not subcontract client work to unknown third parties. When we use a freelancer, we tell the client, agree the work in writing and pay a fair rate.
- We pay promptly. We pay freelancers and suppliers on agreed terms, normally within 30 days.
- We choose established providers. For software, cloud services and equipment, we use well-known companies that publish their own modern slavery statements or equivalent human rights commitments.
- We use licensed content. Stock images and fonts come from reputable libraries with clear licences.
- We pay fairly. Everyone who works for us is paid at least the National Living Wage or the National Minimum Wage, as applicable, and has the right to work in the UK where required.
- We speak up. Anyone working with us can raise a concern directly with our founder, in confidence, without fear of consequences.
If we find a problem
If we became aware of modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chain, we would stop working with the supplier concerned unless they took immediate, credible action, and we would report the matter to the police or the Modern Slavery and Exploitation Helpline (08000 121 700).
Review
We review this statement every year and whenever our business or supply chain changes significantly. As we grow, we will add more formal steps where they are proportionate.
