More about how we work

The team

The people who build it

A small, senior-led team. The person you meet is the person who writes the code.

  • Danilo Fiorillo

    Danilo Fiorillo

    Founder & Lead Developer

Danilo founded WE-DEV and still writes code every week. He leads every project from the first call to launch, and is the person you speak to when something matters.

  • Matteo Ortis

    Matteo Ortis

    Full Stack Developer

Matteo works across the whole stack, from database design and APIs to the interfaces people actually click. He is happiest when a slow, fiddly process becomes one button.

  • Giorgio Borrelli

    Giorgio Borrelli

    Cybersecurity Specialist

Giorgio's background is in cyber crime and security law. He reviews how we protect client data, keeps our builds compliant with UK GDPR and hardens the platforms we hand over.

  • Gaia Fiorillo

    Gaia Fiorillo

    Junior Developer

Gaia studies Computer Science at Middlesex University London and builds with the team on real client work, bringing a fresh eye to interfaces and testing.

WE-DEV LTD is a web and software development agency working with businesses across the UK. We build websites, online shops, mobile apps and the custom software that sits behind them. The team is based in Woolwich, London, and you never need to visit it: we can work with a company in Manchester, Bristol, Leeds, Edinburgh or Cardiff as easily as one down the road, through video calls, a staging site they can open at any time and a phone line that a developer answers.

We are small on purpose. The person who scopes your project is the person who plans it, and the people who build it are the ones who pick up the phone when something needs changing eighteen months later.

How WE-DEV started

WE-DEV was founded by Danilo Fiorillo, a developer who spent years building websites, e-commerce platforms and web applications for charities, campaign groups and growing businesses. Before WE-DEV became a UK limited company, Danilo worked on a donation e-commerce platform and custom CMS for UNICEF, an accessibility-led redesign concept for WWF, campaign landing pages for ActionAid and a redesign with ERP integration for the animal-welfare organisation LAV. You can read about that work on our clients page.

Large organisations teach you something that applies just as much to a ten-person firm: most of the cost of a website arrives after launch. A site that was cheap to build and is expensive to own usually got that way because nobody wrote the code with the next developer in mind. WE-DEV LTD was registered in England and Wales (company number 15878974) to build the other kind, at prices a small business can plan around.

What we build

  • Websites on hand-coded classic WordPress themes, with no page builders, so pages stay fast and the editor stays simple. See web development and CMS development.
  • Online shops on WooCommerce, Magento or PrestaShop, with Stripe payments, UK VAT set up properly and stock levels that match the warehouse. See e-commerce development.
  • Mobile apps written in Flutter for iOS and Android from one codebase, usually backed by Firebase or a Laravel API. See mobile app development.
  • Custom software: CRMs, booking systems, customer portals, dashboards and integrations in Laravel, custom PHP, Node, React or Vue. See custom software development.

Two ways to buy, both with prices on the website

If you want a new website and know roughly what it needs, our fixed-price packages run from £430 + VAT for a five-page Startup Website to £2,650 + VAT for a full Business or E-commerce build. For everything else, you can hire us by the hour online: £45 an hour for website design, up to £70 an hour for mobile app development, with discounts of up to 25 % on larger bookings and hours that never expire.

We publish prices because you should be able to set a budget before a sales call, not after it. If your project does not fit either option, we will write you a quote, and it will be in the same currency as everything else here: hours and pounds.

How a project runs

  1. Discovery. A video call for most clients, or a meeting if you are in London or the Home Counties. We agree what the project has to achieve, who it is for and what “done” looks like. You get a written scope and either a fixed price or an estimate in hours.
  2. Design. We design the key pages first and agree them with you before writing production code. Changing a design costs minutes; changing finished code costs hours, so this is the stage to be fussy.
  3. Build and test. We build on a private staging site you can check whenever you like. Before launch we test on real phones and browsers, run Lighthouse and accessibility checks, and fix what we find.
  4. Launch and support. We deploy, check forms, payments and analytics on the live site, then hand over logins and documentation. Afterwards you can keep us on call with prepaid hours.

Hourly work is logged and shared with you. Fixed-price work has written milestones, so you always know which stage you are paying for.

The standards we hold ourselves to

None of these are exotic. They are simply the things that get skipped when a deadline is close, which is why we write them down.

  • Lighthouse 100. We aim for 100 for performance, accessibility, best practice and SEO on every page template we build, tested on a mobile profile.
  • WCAG 2.2 AA. Templates are designed and coded to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at level AA: keyboard access, visible focus, enough colour contrast, sensible headings and labelled forms.
  • You own the code. Once a project is paid in full, the bespoke code and design belong to you. You get the repository, hosting logins and admin accounts. There is no licence fee for our own work, and nothing extra to pay later to get hold of it.
  • No page builders. We write lean themes instead of stacking a visual builder on top of WordPress. The site loads less code, and any competent WordPress developer can maintain it.
  • Security by default. Sites go live behind Cloudflare, with a firewall, limited login attempts, automatic backups and two-factor authentication on admin accounts.

Who we are

WE-DEV is led by its founder, Danilo Fiorillo, who manages every project and still writes a good share of the code. He works with a small group of developers and specialists, including Matteo Ortis (full-stack development), Giorgio Borrelli (security and compliance) and Gaia Fiorillo (junior developer). For specialist work such as photography, illustration or video, we bring in freelancers we have worked with before, and we tell you up front who will be involved.

Working with us from anywhere in the UK

Remote projects work well when the basics are in place: a staging site you can open at any time, one shared list of tasks, screen-share calls instead of long email threads, and timesheets for hourly work. That is how we run most projects, and it works the same whether you are in Belfast or Birmingham.

When meeting in person genuinely helps, for example a discovery workshop with several people from your team, we travel. Our office is at Unit 6, Block 3, Woolwich Church Street, London SE18 5PQ, so London and the Home Counties are easy. Further afield, we plan a visit around the workshop. See also our pages on web design in St Albans, web design in Hertfordshire and web development in London.

What we will not do

  • Sell you a fifteen-page site when five pages will do the job.
  • Invent statistics, testimonials or deadlines. If something is going to take longer, you will hear it from us before you have to ask.
  • Lock you in. Domains, hosting and admin accounts are set up in your name wherever possible, and the code is documented so someone else could take over.
  • Hide behind a ticket queue. Emails are answered by the people doing the work.

Frequently asked questions

Where is WE-DEV based?

Our office is at Unit 6, Block 3, Woolwich Church Street, London SE18 5PQ. We work with clients across the UK, mostly remotely, and meet in person in London and the Home Counties when it helps.

Do you work with businesses outside London?

Yes. We work with businesses anywhere in the UK. Discovery, design reviews and training all happen over video calls and a shared staging site, and we travel for workshops when that is the better option.

Do I own my website once it is finished?

Yes. Once the project is paid in full, the bespoke code and design we created for it are yours, along with all logins. Third-party items such as WordPress plugins, fonts and stock photos stay under their own licences.

Do you only build WordPress sites?

No. WordPress is our default for content-led business sites, but we also build with WooCommerce, Magento, PrestaShop, Laravel, custom PHP, React, Vue, Node and Flutter, depending on what the project needs.

Can you work on a site another agency built?

Yes. We start with a short review of the code, hosting and plugins, tell you what we find, and then quote for fixes or improvements. Many clients use prepaid hours for this.

How a project runs

Five steps, the same every time

You always know where we are and what happens next.

  1. Listen

A call about your business and what "done" looks like. No pitch, just questions.

  2. Plan

Written scope, fixed price or hour package, and a timeline you can hold us to.

  3. Build

Weekly updates and a staging link from day one. You watch it grow.

  4. Measure

Lighthouse, Search Console and real devices before anything goes live.

  5. Launch & care

We deploy, hand over the keys, and stay on for updates, security and support.
