Tattoo-Art & Obsession

Tattoo-Art & Obsession: website and mobile app

A WordPress website and a companion Flutter app for iOS and Android for a tattoo business.

The brief

Tattoo-Art & Obsession wanted two things. First, a website that presents the business and its work properly to people finding it for the first time. Second, a mobile app that regular clients keep on their phones, giving them a direct line to the studio that doesn’t depend on a social platform whose rules and reach can change overnight.

The website and the app had to feel like one brand, with matching content, imagery and tone, and the team had to be able to keep both up to date without calling a developer for every change.

What we built

  • A WordPress website. Pages for the studio, its artists and its work, which the team edits themselves, and a clear route to get in touch.
  • A Flutter app for iOS and Android. Flutter builds both apps from a single codebase, so there was one project to design, test and maintain instead of two. For a small business, that is often the difference between an app being affordable and not. Flutter isn’t the right answer for every app (heavy use of brand-new platform features can favour native code), but for a studio app it is an easy call.
  • One visual language. The same colours, typography and image style on the site and in the app, so clients recognise the brand wherever they meet it.
  • Phones first, throughout. The audience is overwhelmingly on phones, so both the site and the app were designed for small screens first, with fast-loading images and simple navigation.

Technology

The website runs on WordPress, which gives the team a familiar editor for pages and images. The app is written in Flutter, Google’s open-source framework, as a single Dart codebase compiled for iOS and Android. Each change is made once and released to both stores, which keeps future updates cheaper.

Deliverables

  • WordPress website with editable pages and portfolio
  • Mobile app for iOS and Android built in Flutter
  • Shared visual design across website and app
  • Mobile-first, responsive layouts
  • Handover so the team can update content

What this project shows

A small business doesn’t need two development teams to be on the web and in the app stores. WordPress for the site and Flutter for the app lets one team deliver both and keep them consistent.
